One of AnnMarie Tornabene’s biggest inspiration are the photographs from the Pictorialist period, mainly the works of of Julia Margaret Cameron, Alfred Steiglitz, Edward Steichen and Anne Brigman. The use of themes and symbols, sometimes mythological and romantic plus the questioning of one’s faith, dealing with aging, beauty, and life transitions spoke to her profoundly enough where she often incorporates this in all of her work.

The Ode to the Pictorialists series - an ongoing series - has the aesthetic look of that time period that she so dearly reveres so preciously.
