After years of choosing classical portraiture as her main photographic subject, in 1998, the last year of her university studies and the year of her thesis project entitled “She or Me?”, AnnMarie decided to dedicate her artistic practices to the self-portrait, for beginning the, what would become, a long process of self-acceptance and healing. It became the main form of therapy for her.

Here is a selection of images that she have created between 1998 and 2004 - the mere seeds of what would become of her work in the future; the beginnings of not only displaying her full body but with physical expression and also the beginnings of the use of symbolism.
